A re-visit to this trig today, and while I was pressing my air dry clay into the bronze flush bracket I could hear a number of children arrive sometimes with English being talked and sometimes a foreign language being talked and the kids were open and chatty and friendly and curious as to what I was doing and so a conversation ensued, so I met the Polish mum who was breastfeeding her infant (the youngest of her menagerie of seven children who were all there with her) born on the 23rd of February ..me.. 'the day before my sister'.. her.. 'and two days before my birthday’ ..me ..Aha, the 25th, shared with George Harrison of The Beatles. One of her boys then piped up and said ’my birthday is the 20th of July’.. me ..'and all the best people were born in July!! 'why?' he said. 'Because my birthday is the 28th of July' I chuckled. Oldest, a girl, who was 10, then piped up and said, 'Mine is the ninth of November. With hindsight and knowing that Roger Templeman has made & posted quite a few photographs of his wife and young kids round trig pillars 40 years back, I'd like to have asked her if she would have minded me taking a photograph of her and her seven kids around the pillar and maybe posting a picture on the trig pointing site if she was willing, but I didn't think about it until afterwards. A shame.... Would've been so good.

From Lyndhurst take the B3056 Beaulieu Road. After about 500 metres you'll find the Park Pale car park on your left. The pillar is on top of the small sandy ridge that overlooks the car park. Great views in all directions from the top and plenty of New Forest Ponies nearby.

Park at Bolton's Bench just to the east of Lyndhurst. Walk past Bolton's Bench itself, Lyndhurst cricket ground and another car park. You will see the trig above here on top of a sandy ridge. There are great views all around.

Along B3056 from Beaulieu Road Station heading towards Lyndhurst, pillar visible on top of a ridge on the right, north, side of the road. Convenient but lumpy uneven car park nearby. Up sandy slope (disused pit, according to O.S. map), good views from top. Bench next to pillar where a couple of dog walkers were sitting admiring the views.

Pleasant stroll across closely cropped sward, courtesy New Forest ponies that abound. Pillar found generally in good condition but with minor chipping to top edges; cap missing, asphalt plug; front site hole plug deteriorating, other 3 holes open. Located on a small prominence E of Lyndhurst; some good 360deg views, mainly tops of surrounding trees.

Easy to locate near the Forestry Commission free car park. Horses roam freely around here so watch your wing mirrors don't park too close to another car as they will attempt to walk between! Wooden bench, replacing that in the OS photo but not really much of a view. You can see across the spire.

A pleasant stroll up from the road. Typical New Forest scenery. Even on a bike it was stop/start progress in masses of traffic coming from Romsey direction to Lyndhurst.

Just outside Lyndhurst on ridge. Too busy on a sunny Sunday with a seat nearby. Had to request a family if they could move so I could get photo's and I forgot to check whether plug present! GPS.

This was the best of a dull bunch of trigs we visited in the area. Even at sunset it was only a 5 at best. Bench next to trig was occupied by young lovers, though they soon moved on when we arrived. Close to road and right next to the car park.

Located on the top of small hill/viewpoint on the New Forest, next to the local Cricket Ground. Pillar is in reasonable condition and the views over the forest are quite good.

First T/P on a day out with Motley Crew. Short walk from the car-park. The top edges of the pillar are chipped and worn. The centre pug has been replaced with a cement/bitumen filler. The views are reasonable but not spectacular.

I've been here several times over the years, but this was my first visit since I started trigpointing. Tried to take a nice picture of the pillar with a great sunset behind it, but couldn't get the light right. A nice visit, anyway, and not a strenuous walk!

I think the flush bracket number recorded here is incorrect it should be S2716. It is the answer to a virtual cache GC477D and could be checked with the cache setters.

Writing this in Aug 2018. Just dug out an old map and found notes on a few trigs I did in 1998. Vaguely remember bagging this and its nearest westerly neighbour, but my map notes just record date and time and no other details. I think I was recording all that stuff in a blue notebook, sadly now lost.

Bank Holiday weekend in the New Forest. Not a very challenging 20 yd walk from the adjacent car park. Biggest obstacle was the foal standing resolutely in the road at the entrance to the car park and refusing to move for anyone!
