Closed, but still an excellent viewpoint. Set condition to Good, as it is an Intersection Point, still potentially fulfilling its purpose. I was visiting the PA Bolt bench mark on the near-by church, when I realised I really was very close to this small, but fine, hill.

Even with low cloud obscuring the high fells and it blowing a gale on top of the hill this is a fabulous viewpoint. Well worth the walk up. Reasonably easy access from the B-road to the west, but recommend you park on the B-road as theres not really anywhere to stop on the minor road.

The trig marks database lists this as SD47/INT002; i.e. its an intersected point. So the trig station is the monument itself. Steep grassy path up; views a bit hazy today.

Renovations completed two days before my visit and again re-opened to the public to climb up the internal staircase to the top. As my visit was only two days after the reopening and it was a clear sunny day there was a long queue of people wishing to enter, so I declined. To help future visors wishing to enter the building - it is only open if the Union flag is flying on a flagpole adjacent to the tower. Fantastic views of Lakeland fells and the other way across Morecambe Bay to Blackpool tower. On a clear day mountains of N Wales can be visible.

I have been toying with the idea of logging this as a Trig since spotting the Triangulation pillar symbol inside the view point symbol for Hoad Hill Monument (same as Gummers How) on my OS Explorer Map OL6. I have tried to find out more but the monument is closed for renovation work and closed to the public, I know it used to have a staircase and the top was open with its prominent position I can well believe it would have been used by the OS
