The shop is a good tip, as access is then no problem right up to the building (although it did cost me the price of an interesting book on the history of geological mapping!) (Postscript - I'm now told that as a condition of a recent grant, BGS grounds are now open to the public Mon - Fri including a new, free and very good geological walk - try asking to visit that to gain access).

The security guard was a bit grumpy but he let me walk into the carpark it was Saturday morning and there was nobody about I got as far as the south east corner at SK62043 31679. Looking at the maps and Google Earth I would suggest that the active station is nearer to SK62121 31670 than SK62034 31710 as quoted in the trigpoint details. Thanks to the security guard for his cooperation he was telling me that the NGS site has a shop selling specimens and jewellery that is open in the week. This may be a way of getting nearer to the active station.

Walked past outside the site; couldn't see it. Then did a circuit round the back along the footpath but no sign. Then asked security man at gate for permission to walk as far as the car park for a view - refused! Eventually managed to spot the station from across the road. This station appears to be the replacement for NOTT.
