The original sketch and photograph is now available, so armed with this, set out to find the rascal. Parked in the nearby layby to the west. Previous entries have not exaggerated the dangers of this location. It's horrible. Comparing the original photograph with the actual location, it seems the verge has been built up by about 6" with rocky infill in the intervening years. Although the sketch is useful, the relevant distances are represented by letters and the conversion table has not been included. I had a stab about but due to the precarious position, gave up quite quickly. I'm sure the surface block is there, but I'll not be going back.

GPS indicating rough grass verge S side A75. Spent a while clearing concrete surround to the BT MHC, found it to be in a poor condition. Also probed the surrounding ground, especially to the E where the GPS was indicating. Ground very stony, nothing was found worthy of deploying the spade. With Alex C.

Dug about a bit but no success. Busy road and not a particularly enjoyable visit.

Spotted the recent excavatons by Rob around the GPO covers. Was just digging a hole by a black and white bollard and police came along and politely asked us to move along, as the road is very busy and was concerned for our safety ...... it may be there, but not on the GPO manhole cover.

No os sketch. Dug out a flat slab which initially looked promising. GPO cover just to west, checked for possible bolt but concrete not good enough. Ground a bit stony to probe. Drainage channel runs close to expected location but doubt if block would be destr. Lot of trucks even after midnight. Large lay by just to west

Passive Station C2NX5252. Couldn't find it. Too close to busy A75 to spend too long looking, need to pick a quieter time. Previously Kirklaugh Rivet at NX 52745 52415, might still be there too.
