From east, well worn trail from cafe to old control tower. Both pillar sites level empty prairie. Concrete base between them still has Thor mass concrete and would be obvious place for the trig pillars to be dumped, but no trace. Presumably taken away (or tipped locally) with other debris when site decommissioned

Old Thor remains Base and mass concrete walls but no trig pillars dumped there©peregrinus

I parked in the cafe on the A15 and had a half hearted stroll along field edge - certainly no sign in the field and nothing round the edge that I could see - intersting buildings. gone with destroyed would love to be able to change to a "Moved" if someone can find them, i will come back :)

Grid ref is in the middle of an enormous field with no place for a pillar to hide. Walked from cafe car park beside A15 via derelict control tower. Traversed field SW by means of tractor tracks across ploughed section to trig location just inside area planted with grass seed. Nothing visible, only vast fields. Also went looking for Coleby Grange West (see TP7848).

We accessed the site from the open area behind the cafe on the A15 and had a very interesting mooch around the old control tower. Searched and poked around in lots of piles of broken up concrete and earth but no sign of the pillar. Walked to the 10 fig grid listed (in middle of field) just so we could bag it righteously. We had a brief look for the west pillar too but didnt see that one either. I am not going to say this one is definitely missing as there is a lot of debris piles around the concrete perimeter road and any of these could be hiding an uprooted pillar. After doing a bit of research on Coleby Grange we found that it only had grass runways, so this made it easy to convert to farm use. You have to wonder whether if it had concrete runways it wouldnt have become a field. Maybe then the trig(s) would have remained.

Approached from the cafe on the A15 towards the old control tower. We had a look around in the control tower and around the surrounding areas at the various lumps of concrete just in case we got lucky but to no avail. So we decided to nail the 10 figure grid reference, So we headed off around the track until we hit the Easting, and then turned left and headed in the field to get the northing. After 10 mins or so trudging across the field to the exact location, I can confirm its NOT where it should be. After having a brief look for the west pillar which is not there either we headed off back to the control tower. If you stand with your back to the tower at the left hand corner the pillar site is on a bearing of approx 246 deg. This was my favorite trig of the day as I am quite interested in the cold war history. (see trigbaggers photos) http://www.raf-lincolnshire.info/colebygrange/colebygrange.htm
