Parked at the end of the lane that runs past Wytchley Warren Farm and walked fairly swiftly and reasonably directly to the broken Trig Point using GPS as I didn't feel it wise to hang around too long. We were spotted, but not challenged, by a couple walking their dog on the old airfield; however an admonishing note of disapproval had been taped to the window of the van when we returned to it. I'd recommend future visitors exercise a little more stealthy-ness and bit less brazen-ness than we did! The trespass-y nature of the area added a certain frisson to the visit but its just an old airfield for goodness sake, its a part of our history that should be celebrated not fenced off.

Found this just a short walk from it's sister trig to the West, although struggled to realise it at first as it has been snapped in half, the top laying north of the base. Based on the number of 5.56 blank firing shells scattered around, it's been providing cover for some of the army guys on the base during operations. The trig is complete with all the metalwork and brackets, they are just no longer all part of a single structure. Again, being outside of the immediate area of the Thor launch site, I worry this and it's sister trig will be lost during the mining and dwelling constructions. I'll try and keep an eye on them. Being not of OS trigs, I don't suppose there is any owner we can contact to raise the topic of their well being and protection? Jon.

Poor thing - broken in two! Very sad to see it in this state, it must have taken quite a whack to split it into two like this!

In a very sad state this one. Broken in half but flush bracket still clearly visible. You can access when no exercise is on and before 10pm as the barrier is closed. Evidence of horses using the airfield and I'm sure local kids must access the site. Lots of signs about CCTV however as I'd been cleared at the guardhouse I wasn't too concerned.

Had forgotten all about these two Project Emily pillars until looking at my map at lunchtime. Had no details from website but remembered access was from lane to East. Found this one but failed in the other, though seems obvoius in now reading up on it! Van by Phantom and people working there.

Joint visit with Carole. After having had guided security visits to both 10863 and S9536 our military guide had no idea of the existence of this one. So we were allowed to drive to it whilst he followed. It's still there but in two pieces and retains all its metal work. All in all a very memorable visit to these three pillars.

Great find!! - what an interesting place! - I have to say I felt that I was going to be arrested at any time by the Military Police, it looks like it was left in a hurry with all sorts of stuff lying around, Jets, Vehicles and Bombs! - loved it :) - Pillar in two halfs at edge of recently harvested hay field - very different views.I parked at the dead end lane to the North East and stepped over the very low fence once you have ignored the tresspassing and official secrets acts signs it is a straightforward walk across to the pillars.

Never heard of the Emily poject but if Peregrinus says it's a loggable pillar I'm in for that. Attained whilst on a recce with cadets. Pity it's so damaged. Much moss growing on the stump.
