Turns out there is another library in Edinburgh with the same name and taxi went to that first but I knew we still had over 1km to go. Showed him the map and he got me to the correct library. He parked outside, I jumped in, got the photos and back out again. Ya dancer.

This curiosity was one item I'd been looking forward to for my whole trip up to Edinburgh. So, as I approached the entrance to the library I was left wondering why the whole building was in darkness even though it wasn't closing time. I looked at the holiday dates and then realized ... The 30th of November is St Andrews Day! Luckily enough the pillar is currently positioned in view of the window. No chance of seeing the flush bracket, though I can say with assured confidence that it is overall still in good condition :).
