Site has had many miitary and civilian uses over the years since it first opened in 1916. After the RAF finally withdrew in 1999 it continued as Kent international airport and the MoD Fire Trg establishment. The later use remains, the former not. The trig pillar was sited at the W end of the airfield, near that end of the runway, perhaps that's why it went in 1961. With the Army now in occupation there is a high security perimeter fence.

Logged for completeness only since it was a pillar at some point in the past. Inside secure area at end of Manston airport.

Within the perimeter fence of Manston Airport. I can confirm Perigrinus' observation that there is a convenient pull-in off the busy road for viewing the location. Pillar and block possibly destroyed by the USAF - they had quite a presence here from WW2 until the 60s.

www.bench-marks.org.uk/bm20870 states: [TR26/T33] reported destroyed 30/10/1943; pillar evidently converted to Buried Block, itself destroyed 1961; lost to Manston Airfield? (now Kent International Airport). GPSr pointed to flattish grassy summit and highpoint of airport, 130m inside (N of) S perimeter fence. Convenient pull-in a few metres to W. A couple of dusky drizzly shots for the record.
