The second of 4 on our trip hitting the 4 peaks(E,NI,S&W) Straight from Ferry from Cairnryan to Newcastle. Parked at last car park and started climb through the woods and up to the saddle. Last climb up along the wall was steep, took a few stops on this bit. Trig up on a building view was great up here. Will certainly return to explore more in the future.

Climbed again on a fantastic clear day. Since my last visit the pillar has been partially re-rendered and a lightning conductor has been added which will hopefully help preserve it.

Bagged trig as part of 10 mile walk from Bloody Bridge car park taking in Slieve Commedagh and Chimney Rock Mountain. Perfectly sunny and clear, great views. Very busy on top. Last UK top needed after bagging Snowdon in 2008, Ben Nevis in 2014 and Scafell Pike earlier this year.

Brilliant views out to sea and inland to the rest of the Mourne mountains . Oldest son hauled himself onto the top plinth; I resisted the temptation. I needed all my limbs intact for Carrantouhill the next day

Walked up from Newcastle on holiday to Northern Ireland. Sunny warm day, but top in mist. Climbed up to touch trig, but not recommended. Tough one, but rewarding, highest point of Northern Ireland.

Most popular climb in the Mournes leads to the highest OSNI trig. Pillar was built on top of the Mourne Wall shelter to allow a clear view in all directions. The day I climbed was beautiful until close to the summit.

Excellent walk up from Newcastle on a sunny warm day. Views a little hazy so no views of Scotland or Wales. Gorse fire to north an unwelcome intrusion to the landscape. Declined to climb up to the Trig - common sense prevailed! Actual grid ref is J358277

Elevation: 849metres. Trig pillar in reasonably good condition. Very exposed to the elements and the faces have become extremely weather worn. It appears to have had som patching to the faces. The spider is somewhat exposed. Unable to climb right up to the pillar as it was very cold and windy. The pillar is located on top of a stone corner hut on the Mourne Wall. Unable to take any pictures of the top of the pillar. May return in the summer. Good views all around of Dundrum Bay, the Isle of Man and much of the rest of the Mournes. Very hazy in the distant. Some snow remains after this winter's heavy falls. Flush bracket easily visible from the stile over the wall.

Thanks to kryten2*4p for putting this on the database so I too can log our visit. Sadly chose to climb Slieve Donnard on a freezing cold, wet and cloud bound day so absolutely no views. Will have to go back as otherwise had an excellent long weekend's walking in NI (rest of our time there wall to wall blue sky - very perverse!). Go! [For the record also climbed Carrauntoohil 19 June 2002 but didn't find a trig up there].

Evening yomp up from Bloody Bridge, great weather and fantastic views. There are two plaques on the shelter in memory of Carl Stephenson, who was killed by lightning on this spot a couple of months prior to this visit. Approximate date; also a few years before I discovered this site so I didn't note any details of the pillar, but managed to capture it in photos (uploaded). This was my first confirmed trig, but I'm sure I stumbled across others in my earlier years!

Wet and windy. Quick bag then ferry to Galloway, up to Ben Nevis then Scafell Pike then Snowdon - the UK 4 Peaks in 24 hours - had to be done :-) With Mick Saunders and Andy Illidge; Andy's brother doing the driving.
