Parked in the small car park at the entrance to the gliding club. No one about so hopped over the gate and followed the track up the airfield. A glider was winch-launched as I made my way to the pillar which can be seen from some distance. I met a very friendly gent who said access was not a problem as long as you do not stray on to the airfield. Leave the track and go through a small metal gate which leads to the pillar. The views were excellent on this warm sunny day although the distant Hope cement works did spoil it a bit. He informed me that the plaque on the pillar was to commemmorate the lives of two people who were killed when two gliders collided in 1999. There were a number of hang gliders around and a glider came in to land as I was returning to the car.

A bit of a nightmare this one. Never truly knew where I was on this walk until I reached the trig !! Took PROW SE from Bradwell up on to Bradwell Edge. Had planned to intersect with Brough Lane then parallel the wall along Bleak Knoll but must have taken a wrong path somewhere as I never made it to Brough Lane. Instead a general sense that I needed to head South got me close enough that I could see the trig. Crossed the ladder stile mentioned by Bridgeman then followed his route to the trig. Note that the broken gate he mentioned is now chained to a new metal gate. Just about avoided damaging my crown jewels whilst climbing this gate - lost my footing as it was covered in ice. Good views from the trig across to Mam Tor and Win Hill which were similarly dusted in snow. Returned to Bradwell via perimeter of the airfield, West down a track into Great Hucklow then past the Washing Plant and Quarters Farm onto B6049.
