Arrived at our holiday destination yesterday, after a decent drive from The Midlands and planned this trig as a gentle starter. Turned out to be a great afternoon’s outing. Started at the secluded car park just off Shore Road (NS11273 69074) and headed along the footpath with canopy of trees. We did encounter a barrier across the trail that headed towards the trig, so, with our loyal labradoodle and brambles in mind, did paws for thought, but soon found an alternative route. The photo NS12833 69451 should indicate the start of the final ascent to the to. Well worth the climb. On our return, we took a slight detour to look at the Chinese pools; a hidden gem. Thence to the car and a short drive further along Shore Road to a pull in at Brackley Point on the shore of Loch Striven for some liquid refreshment.

Proper name Buachailean or Volcano Hill as it is known locally provides magnificent views of Bute , Arran and further afield. Good path via the Chinese Ponds ( castle water supply ) to the trig .

vgc, asphalt plug, distinctive compact peat & heather summit, fine views across Bute to snowy Arran Corbetts. From SSW, track past Castle Toward then a cottage. Waymarked forest trails evidently start at a car park N of Ardyne Farm. Felling on S slopes, path obliterated and approaches from W and S out of bounds, although all quiet on Sun a.m. and no difficulties passing W and N of felled area to rejoin path beside a wall.
