A mood change from the Lake District, the long sombre beautiful ranges of the Uredale series... appropriately enough after this space of bitds, sheep and wind I'm travelling near the river to Middleham Castle whilst the thunder clouds gather between the Dales and the Moors, as they tend to.

Walked the Cam High Road earlier this year with the idea of a detour to this top, but owing to extreme wind and rubbish visibility in the low cloud, I carried on like a good Roman to Bainbridge. Today was completely different; superb blue skies, a balmy sub- tropical November afternoon and a very attractive cairn with lovely views in every direction.

A qualified 'Good', the OS report the cairn destroyed July 1976, so is the current cairn in same place as original? And even if it is, does it count as the trig? Maybe... maybe not.

Probably Yorkshire's easiest 2000' top, just a minor detour from the track. The OS trig marks database records the station as 'Dest 07/76' so the present cairn is presumably a rebuild and possibly relocated. Good views across Wensleydale.

This fell is also a nuttall/hewitt summit as well.
