Met up with the our Geopals for a speedy boat trip across to Ailsa Craig. No other boats around so thought we would have the island to ourselves, so we were surprised to spot a few people up at the castle! A glorious hot and sunny day made the steep trail even more difficult, but got to the top eventually. Not much of a view as it was so hazy, we could barely make out the mainland. Had to get down again quick as we had found out our lift back was gubbed, so gratefully received a tow from the local tourist boat Glorious. (A huge thanks to them for that!)

Big relief landing today after a couple of failed attempts two years ago. Stunning weather and a good humoured gang to climb the hill with. Drained every penny's worth out of the trip as we ended up towing a broken down RIB at a snail's pace back to Girvan. Really has been quite a long time since I've had such a fantastic 10/10 trig visit. One of the best! YouTube footage to follow...

MVs Glorious and Huntress from Girvan landed 22 on a trip organized by Rick Salter. North-easterly breeze threatened the landing onto a stone jetty in poor condition, but both boats successfully landed and extracted us, if after a coupe of hours delay. Lovely bright day if a little hazy. Good path to summit, steepish in places but easy enough. Stone-built pillar; original cap retained, deeply indented lettering. Views could have been better if not so hazy, but hey, that's nit-picking really.

Boat trip from Girvan with SlainteJimmy, trigging on an island, stonestreaker and 8 others. Despite the good weather the sea swell increased so much as we crossed the Irish Sea that it was too much for us to land on the small unprotected jetty near the lighthouse. After a tour round the island we called it off and headed back for Girvan. From about a mile out I could make out the pillar at the southern end of the summit plateau. The boat was thrown about quite a bit by the swell, listing quite violently at times and showering us all with the briney stuff. Bit of a shame to have been defeated this time, but I'll be back!

A bit of hazy sunshine, but visibility good at our level. Well worth the wait to get here. Lots of history and pretty much everything untouched. Magic.
