The Naze Tower is a Grade II* listed structure originally constructed 1720 but upper stages 19/20thC. Interesting history linked to early development of radar, it had a large rotating antenna installed at the top in 1942. OS lists extant trig components as: Bolt, Centre & Mast. Latter seems present and correct. Lovely early morning visit after walking across mud flats to Horsey and Hedge-end Islands.

I regularly visited the top of the tower were there was some environmental sampling equipment, monitoring air quality associated with University of Essex.. The tower had a dodgy internal staircase and a hatch opened up onto the roof. I recall the roof was covered in felt with a low wall. I do not recall a bolt, i did not even realise such things existed. I have not revisited in the last 23years or so, when my work was completed
