Don't log bolts as a rule, but as a reference to my last but one Welsh 3000 having just come across for Y Garn thought I would make an exception with this log. brilliant day with lovely sunshine and stunning 360 views but some high winds. This was a last day of a week generally above 700m - never had such a good week in the Welsh mountains without rain. Trade the wind for the rain anytime.

Expected location is circular stone shelter or a few m to S. Possibly buried under a rock. Alex's concrete block doesn't look like OS and is 30m too far W and may relate to Marchlyn Mawr resr. We found 3 stone built trigs above dam: one at SH 61304 61929 with shallow circular tube in top. Another nearby on spur at SH 61419 61908, with new plastic cover apparently forming an instrument mounting. 3rd to N of resr, at SH 61629 62679 with top tube threaded on outside.

I think I found the remains of this item here today on top of Elidir Fawr. It's a rectangular block concreted into a natural rock outcropping and has a metal tube running through it. If there was once a bolt head protruding it has since been damaged. From this position there are clear views to the neighboring pillars: Foel Fras, Carnedd Dafydd (destroyed), Garnedd Ugain and also northwards to the intersected stations of the Menai Straits and Anglesey. I am quite confident that this is the trig we're looking for as there doesn't appear to be any other reason to explain it's being here.

Wet, windy, cloud down on the mountain - a lovely day's walking in N Wales. Parked up in Nant Peris and followed a path up to National Park boundary and then went off piste to top of Elidir Fawr, crossed the 2 bwlchs to Mynydd Perfedd before veering north for Carnedd y Filiast (and its N Top), then heading back S for Foel Goch and Y Garn. Weather perked up later for us. No sign of the bolt though.

horrific wind and a dusting of snow. Given the conditions a concrete trig would have been hard enough to pin down.
