This pillar is highly visible and with reasonably easy access IF you find the right path. Unfortunately due to my incompetence and natures power I made reaching this pillar far more difficult than it should have been. Initially without realising I had not parked where I had planned. Eventually I found my place on the map only to have my footpath through the woodland above Glascwm totally blocked. Fortunately the householder took pity on me and directed me to a lovely forest track that led me straight to the top where I could sit and take in the wonderful scenery below. Some slight damage to the pillar but still retains an original plug. An outstanding view point well worth the hassle.

The pillar stands close to a forestry bench on a rocky outcrop on a hill between the villages of Meifod and Bwlch-y-cibau. The top of the pillar has some surface cracking and a slice from the northwest corner is missing; it has a metal cap with shallow lettering and has FB S4747. I parked at the end of the surfaced lane to Min-gwern in the southwest. I took the footpath to the northwest across a couple of fields and into the woods. A couple of hundred yards into the woods, just as the track starts a gentle descent, a steep path was taken climbing up the hillside. When you emerge from the woods if you head slightly left to the crest of a small southerly spur you will pick up a reasonably clear path that can be followed to the summit. The view from the pillar is outstanding encompassing Meifod; the River Vyrnwy; the lower wooded or grassy hills nearby and a huge swathe of more distant hills and mountains: the Berwyns to the north; the Cambrian Mountains to the west; Corndon Hill could be seen be seen beyond the Long Mountain to the south and the Breiddens are to the east.

Not too difficult to access this pillar, being on the crest of a ridge and against the fence. There is also a bench close by and a memorial plaque on the ground adjacent to the pillar. The pillar itself is all intact with the original plug [slightly-indented letters]. SE sighthole open, others closed. NW top corner chipped and the top appears to have been recemented. Concrete base flush with ground and eroded slightly on NE/NW corners. Traces of paint. Nice spot!
