I think I might have saved a life today! For on approaching the pillar I noticed a sheep whose head was trapped within the fence and hedge. A mix of wire and entangling hedge growth held her fast. She seemed weak with the prolonged effort of trying to free herself, and may have been there all night. It was relatively easy to free the poor thing, and she staggered away to join her pals across the field, declining my offer of a counselling session, with a dismissive 'baa'. The pillar has its cap with deep lettering, and one sight-hole open, but there is a little damage to the top with some concrete having disintegrated. Today was a beautiful winter's morning, and my walk up to the trig was a crispy, crunchy, frosty one. A fine little adventure.
