Parked on Hopley Road having looked for a way in by the pub as per previous logs and opted for the track by no.53. Electric fences everywhere with no easy way over the gate without touching the fence, decided not to attempt it as it was now also chucking it down.

Parked at south west side of crossroads in Rough Hay on B5017. Over wooden fence on west side of entrance to pub car park into thick nettles and brambles. Headed uphill to north east. Fairly short climb about 175 metres. Overlooked by properties to east. Pillar on edge of field, probably horse paddock, partly hidden by vegetation. Did a little bit of gardening. Views of houses. Spider and cap in place.

Access over the two fences behind the pub, cheekily arrived as the farmer was trimming the hedges on his tractor. trig in vgc with plug.

re-visit. Approached up the main road from Burton where a temporary set of traffic lights were set up just around a sharp left bend at the foot of the steepest section of road. As is often the case, all the associated signs were uselessly grouped round the lights. Well used route over two wooden fences near pub car park. Much evidence of cattle, but none present today. Views out across Trent Valley. Pillar in good condition.

Parked on Hopley Road. Walked on to the B5017, where there is a gap in the hedge, which allows you to climb over 2 wooden fences and an electric fence into the field where the pillar is located. Had to climb under a second electric fence before reaching the pillar

parked opposite pub in car park then went to bottom corner of field over to wooden fences alot of bramble to fight off then up the field to the pillar

Access at corner difficult as there are two barbed wire fences and a flooded hollow between them. Try a wooden 6 bar gate access further north along the road towards Anslow. The gated access is opposite the roadside Parish notice board, through the gate up a wide track to another wooden gate into the field behind the houses with the pillar at the top of the field. A closed pub is on the RHS of the gated track.

I can't believe I drive within 100m of this pillar everyday and failed to notice it (still it is in Staffordshire & therefore off my radar). Parked opposite pub, hopped over metal gate 50m to west just by back of speed camera sign & before skip company driveway. Plenty of gaps in hedge near to pillar to get into right field. A dark & drizzly day in Burton as usual...

Easy this one ,visited library in Burton,viewed survey map decided to go for this one .Passing bus stop in Shobnall Rd saw bus iminent ,off at terminas The Acorn Inn over road ,over gate up field to trig ,nice location good views as light was fading, into Anslow contemplating Trig at Rolleston, no another day,returned on no 10 and V3 to Derby

Set out to get three trigs Anslow Leys, Hound Hill and Hoon Hill – but on my way back through Tutbury I realised that I was passing Beacon Hill so I got four trigs in two and a half hours. For Anslow Leys I parked opposite the pub and scrambled through the gap in the hedge – came back down the field through the gate further down the road – an easier access point.

Not sure how legal this one is, but easy enough to find. There is a little gate in the corner of the field next to the main road. Its covered in brambles but easy enough to get over. Walked to the top of the hill and the TP isjust the other side of the trees. It is in very good condition.

Gap referred to by others has been sealed with lots of barbed wire, and with other people around at the time, trespassing was not thought appropriate. Seen from pub car park

Called by after visiting the National Memorial Arboretum ,well worth a visit if you are near.Pillar easily accessible from the road .

Parked in "bus stop" bay, crossed the road towards the pub, and turned left. At the corner of the field is a gap in the hedge (watch the barbed wire). Then it is just a short walk from the road. Seems to be in good condition, but views were poor because of weather.

Found a convenient stile off the lane by the entrance into a farm with some haulage vehicles. The pillar is all intact with the original plug - slightly indented letters. Some traces of paint visible. W sighthole open, others closed. Concrete base exposed about 3" all round. It's on the edge of a pasture field behind a row of houses. Good E views, including two power stations and the Coors Brewery in Burton. As a confirmed real-ale anorak the latter didn't exactly fill me with joy......

As fasgadh states this trig is clearly visible from the road and the car park of the pub nearer Anslow but access appeared a little problematic. I considered asking permission at the nearby farm building but it appeared to be a skip hire business with a guard dog sign on the gate so lost my confidence. Ended up satisfying myself with a distant view.
