Pulled over into lane on north side of A38 about 500 metres north east from the pillar. Pillar visible from there on plinth in second field hedge boundary. Across a couple of grassy fields and over a couple of gates. Startled a couple of deer in second field which bounded away towards the pillar. Cut a few brambles away to get onto plinth. Cap missing. Good views.

First of 3 on way to surfing weekend in North Devon. Parked in the middle of the central reservation on a farm crossing and accessed the field via the adjacent gate. Two big birds of prey just sitting on the fence. Soaking wet feet from walking across the field. Didn't get close enough to touch as it is elevated in the hedge. Itchy.

The pillar is perched on a large plinth embedded in a prickly hedge on the south side of a grass field on a small hill to the south west of Wellington. I parked in the gateway on the eastern side of the field on the verge of a short dual carriageway section of the A38. The trig appears to be in good condition but is mostly cloaked in ivy. It lacks a cap or plug and has FB S3957 facing into the field to the north of the hedge. From the plinth it is possible to see over the nearby hedgerows to the surrounding landscape of low rolling hills of fields and woods. The Quantock Hills rise up in the distance to the north. The partially wooded slopes on the edge of the Blackdown Hills can be seen to the east and the hazy outlines of some distant hills of South Devon are on the horizon to the south.

Not far in from the main road (A38). We parked by the gate into the pigs and hopped over. You then have to go into the field to the S of the trig (empty at the time) as the pigs have their luxurious quarters in the one to the N. The FB is on the North ! On a large plinth - of course, its Somerset !! Some of the ivy & moss has now gone.

You can park on the little yellow road to the north east just after it's junction with the A361. Walk down the A361 a bit and there is a gate giving access into the field. Trig is on a plinth with the FB facing north east. It was too overgrown to check the plug.

This was more of a struggle to reach than I'd anticipated. I parked in a layby to the S on the A38, crossed a fence and skirted a field full of swede, expecting the trig to be in the hedgeline on the high ground. It wasn't, so I followed a startled roe deer through a tiny gap in the hedge that was clearly its normal thoroughfare and crossed the next door field to find the trig in the opposite hedgerow. I didn't bother getting the FB, although facing NE it's accessible from the next field, through which I made my escape.
