Great views from here, late evening bag and the last for this trip to the IoW. Could see a cruise liner leaving the mainland in the North. Interestingly, the site links with Wroxall Down (Ventnor Radar Station)- the antenna on this ridge were for communications, set away from the radar so as not to interfere. Now a NATS Rx station. Parked at end of byway in parking area (byway is paved, albeit steep but no problem), short walk along the ridge and into the field where trig is located.

Extensive 360deg views. New high wire fence prevents direct access to Obelisk to N.

Visited on a circular walk from Roud. I gained access from the footpath to the east of the radio station, walking from Appuldurcombe Obelisk. There is a convenient short section of railing in the new fence around the radio station. However, access is most easily gained by climbing over the gate across the track leading to the masts, to the south of the radio station. Fine views, particularly from the surrounding paths.

Walked up from Appuldurcombe house by way of ancient gateway and Worsley trail. Met a local at the obelisk who pointed out many places of interest on the island. Thanks mate! There is a large gap in the perimeter fence of radio mast compound which shortens journey somewhat. I decided to return via direct descent of hill but was spotted by the Appuldurcombe falconer, who has eyes like his hawks ! " This is not a public footpath, go back up the hill " he bawled through his megaphone. Like **** was I ! I diverted to the left out of his sight and continued on down. A wonderful walk with wonderful views all over the Isle of Wight.
