Latest of ten visits (first 22/4/78) One time (28.12.05) I had a beautiful mountain day with thick rime all over summit including trig and an inversion spreading from the basin of Llyn Tegid up into the hills, and another visit was on a warm and clear b.m.d. with stunning views. One time was cloudy and dull but still with little patches of snow - and some frogspawn in pools. First time I'd ever walked up the ridge from Llanuwchllyn. Last time I repeated the route but descended via the Cwm Croes track and a delightful series of field paths between Ty-mawr and Llanuwchllyn. This time up and down ridge on a clear day with most of Snowdonia in view. Trig is now a rather elegant, slim, stone-built column but Poucher's "The Welsh Peaks" (first pub 1962) shows a concrete pillar with a crack right across its base. It's now missing some support under one corner and has deteriorated since 2016.

Pillar sits high on an outcrop amongst a jumble of rocks at the summit of this lovely hill. Stone-built, it's suffering a bit from the elements with some top screed missing. Centre cap is missing, no plug; front sight hole open. Should be extensive panoramic vews from here, unfortunately cloud down on the hill today.

The thread that runs through many of the logs for this trig is the superlatives that describe the views. I cannot agree more. The route we took began from a parking spot off the A494, along a minor road, just after a steep ascent: SH81542 22327 (approx) west of the summit. We stopped briefly to reflect on a memorial to the crew of an RAF mosquito who lost their lives in 1944. Continued on through the forest, then a steady climb towards the summit that we reached in just under three hours from our starting point. Returned the same way in just about two hours.

Followed Nuttalls route 8.1 from the car park at Cwn Cywarch. So very lucky that the clouds lifted for the rest of the day whilst coming over Drysgol. The Arans are the finest and Aran Fawddwy is my top pillar in Wales. A superb descent from the col below Glasgwm, but definitely an "upper" path. I gift to the 50 + ex-alcoholic whom I met at breakfast. He works in the Emirates now and just bought himself a Harley Davidson. His nails were perfectly painted black and orange (matched his MB top) and his toe nails blue. He prefers pastel colours though!

Continuing the upland revisit this was Nutall top 47 for 2006 and I made 50 before returning to the car. A temperature inversion and lots of cloud and sun gave me a good 20mins of Brocken spectres along Drws Bach. Trig itself is unchanged since I was last here

Visited on the "Nuttall" The Aran Ridge walk (8.1). The Car parking is below the start of the walk and is a really impressive spot.

An early one of many visits to the Aran ridge; it's always a good walk (albeit sometimes a bit boggy, or frozen) if done from Cwm Cywarch, and can be extended to finish at Llanuwchllyn if you have arranged things well with two cars.
