don't think tides too much of a problem. High water did not cover all of beach on my visit and there was a grassy bank along and higher than the beach. There was a narrow channel very close to the car park - maybe that is the problem area?

A long walk along the beach to get a geocache. May as well bag the trig while we're here.

From the car park at Greinetobht (NF 8192 7562). Pleasant walk over the sands and machair to a prominent hill amongst the dunes at N end of the headland. Pillar has no top cap and is un-plugged; RHS sight hole open. Panoramic sea- and landscape views.

Visited on a smashing day in April 2012 when the rest of the country drowned in April showers. This trig is now part of the 'tourist trail' being popularised by Monty Hall's TV series of a couple of years ago - which should be a good thing, as more people will get to see this fabulous area.

vgc, broken brown resin plug, base a little undermined and apparently shored up by concrete in last few years. Lovely location & view, long walk out along classic Uist white-sand beach then track behind dunes. Car park at 819756: track beyond is tidal. I arrived during a high spring tide & returned 6h later to avoid a wade.
