I think CJO may have been probing too far from the drain. My GPS had me on its very banks, in line with a hedge junction on opposite bank. The trig is also a benchmark, levelled at 6.25m and is shown on the 1973 1:2k5 map. The ground along the bank and to some metres back is slightly raised possibly indicating the block has been further covered by dredging. Spent about 10 mins probing, but ground is quite firm so prodder only going in 6" max. Nothing found.

from GPS location is 4 m south of drainage stream, 33 M west of bridge/gate shown by PYOUNG1S photo. Party of 3 spent 30minutes sytematically probing the area. Could be deeply buried if drainage ditch has been cleared over the years.

Butchers Durbins Screwdriver marks the GPS position. Nothing found in 4 m radius.

The location of the trig is next to a drainage ditch in the Gordano Valley between Clevedon and Portishead. The trig was not apparent on the surface. The nature reserve was entered directly from Walton Drove, a minor road nearby to the south. The M5 runs along the side of the long wooded ridge of Tickenham Hill on the south side of the valley and the wooded slopes of Common and Castle Hills are to the north. The site is within the low level peat moor of the Gordano Valley Nature Reserve and has been designated a SSSI.
