Stopping at the nearby Dornie Hotel so just nipped out to bag this one before tea. Somewhat disappointed that it was hiding under a hedge and I initially mistook it for a waste bin.

Please someone give it a paint, easy bag - so what if we get a few car horns - maybe an attempt to remind us there is a castle nearby or it could be the guest appearance of our car furniture...last one in the Highlands for now. A slightly unglamorous 400th trig point but a vanesta so that's ok!

Log #140. Parked at the hall, then walked along the road to the pillar. I wasn't expecting it to be so close! Freshly cut grass set my hayfever off, but it was only a small annoyance. The raised cap is still intact, which is really surprising considering its location. Overall good condition, offering a decent view of the surrounding hills and Eilean Donan castle. [ExP-127/MiP-2/Rev-1/BM-9/Other-1]

HISTORY: Pillar completed 15th April 1958 costing £21.6s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NG80/DM/T10 by distomat survey in 1959. Levelled for height also in 1959. Last maintained by the OS in June 1978. SITE VISIT: Large public car park at NG879263, off SW side of A87, entrance just SE of trig. Pillar stands on open mowed grassland by SW footpath. Vanessa in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with raised large narrow letters. Flush bracket faces east, ~84°. Sight holes buried by raised ground level. Open mainly upward panorama runs from WNW through north, east and south to SW. Remember to visit nearby levelling flush bracket G1750 before departing.

Parked in the Outdoor shop car park, looked longinly in the window. Resisted the urge to enter the shop -they were closed! Found the two Dornie trigs, this makes three in the area, most satisfying! Our first 'round' trig.

Easy as they get.. roadside vanessa by the new Dornie Bridge. The roadworks could have done for it, but it survived, and is freshly painted.
