Decided on the Jubilee Cottage approach. Was walking along the path across the top of the ridge towards Cold Comfort Farm when I got caught in a deluge that Helen Young, Alex Deakin & Co would probably describe as an "isolated shower". Went for cover in the hedge, only to end up covered in burrs from a burdock plant. To crown it, the pillar is in a newly-ploughed field which the deluge turned to a quagmire. Anyway, enough of my problems! The pillar is all intact with the original plug - slightly-indented letters. E sighthole open, the others closed. Concrete base exposed on SW/S side to a depth of about 8". There is a repaired crack to the left of the FB. It still has a bit of paint. On a good day the views from here would be distant all round!
