I've been here a few times over the years and was here today as part of a circular hike out of Crich. Always a great place to visit. There was a cloud inversion that could be seen in the distance.

Spending the day at Crich Tramway Village and walked up from the Glory Mine tramstop mid-afternoon, easy ascent. 360 degree views from the top away across the Peaks, to Staffordshire and Leicestershire and no doubt more. Also the location of Crich Summit and Crich Trig Pillar. Returned to the Museum via the memorial access road to Town End. Have seen this monument many times from trains on the Midland Main Line so pleased to finally be here in person.

Walking from Ambergate to Matlock. Tower open and good value for 50p donation. Lincoln Cathedral (41 miles away) could be seen from the top. Couldn't confirm if I could see the Malvern Hills to the southwest.

Hard to believe that the rain earlier would stop but it did and it turned out exceptionally nice by the time I arrived here, windy but grand views all round.

I always thought that the monument was a folly built by the idle peasants. I couldn't have been more mistaken and what a lovely little find....devoid of people during school holidays. Hurrah. 2/6 gifted to Fray Bentos who are still churning pies out in a tin.....Vegetable Balti! The original home of Fray Bentos is a town in Uruguay and the factory is a UNESCO site.

The 'Crich Stand' memorial tower. Completed in 1923, and dedicated to the memory of the soldiers from the Sherwood Foresters Regiment who died in both world wars. Visited the monument at the same time as the pillar.

(1912) Monument certainly visible from some ways off. Parked up just before the entrance and walked the rest of the way. Grade II* listed monument. From the top, 8 counties can be viewed apparently. All in all a nice tranquil spot with everything well maintained. CBM (with what looks like a shelf for a pivot) present W angle NW face.

Obviously great views if the weather's on your side but it wasn't. Monument currently in the hands of the builders and scaffolded out. Fence around the location a bit tawdry. Hopefully things will be better once work finished.

Nice well maintained tower which today was open to the public made a small donation as well.Could see a large quarry below from the top would not have known because of the mist, well maintained memorial to the sherwood forest regiment.
