Parking at the road side then along path to monument, looking a little shabby, great views over to Glastonbury Tor, thanks to tree cutting. Cut Bench Mark NW corner.

Grade II* listed 110' Tuscan column, 1831. A memorial to Sir Samuel Hood, Admiral and one time mentor to Nelson. Looking a little neglected, surrounding trees precluding views other than N to Glastonbury Tor. Cut benchmark on the base.

The 110 foot high 19th century Admiral Hood Monument rises above the broad leaved woodland on Windmill Hill to the south of Street. The woods were entered by the footpath at the junction of Reynalds Way and Behind Town. The paths leading to the summit of the hill were quite muddy in places but in places there is a wide ranging view through the trees across South Somerset. An avenue has been cleared through the woods from the monument to give a good view to the north across the Somerset Levels and Glastonbury Tor to Pen Hill in the Mendips. From Reynalds Way there is a wider view that takes in the Somerset Levels and most of the length of the Mendip Hills. The monument is crowned by a nautical sculpture of galleons and mainsails. It is a Grade II* listed structure and has a cut bench mark near its northwest corner. The south facing wooded slopes of the hill are part of the East Polden Grasslands SSSI.

Butleigh Monument: a favourite childhood haunt. Last visited by bike from Taunton 6/4/15. There was a rather annoying quadcopter being flown around the place
