A Regular visitor to this fine viewpoint across Severn Valley to Forest of Dean and Black Mountains. South towards Bristol and beyond. On a clear day can see The Quantocks. Whilst north to May Hill. A 15 mins walk up Cotswold Way from the village of North Nibley.

Completed 1866, erected "in grateful remembrance of William Tyndale translator of the English bible" to quote part of memorial plaque above entrance. Tower is open to public to climb (121 steps) to enclosed room at top, where extensive views over surrounding country can be had making the climb definitely worthwhile. Last restored as a millennium project 2000-4.

Having done an early shift at work in Bristol I bagged a couple of intersected stations in SE Glos in the afternoon and stopped off for dinner at the Thames Head Inn. On a whim I then decided to visit the Nibley Monument and parked up at the entrance to a bridleway at ST 7404 9569. I followed the bridleway and then the path to the east up through the woods and out to the top. It took me a while of wandering round to realise that the gate and door were open and I could go inside. I climbed spiral staircase in tower without hindrance but a little huffy and puffy! (I'm out of shape!) Spectacular views off the edge of the Cotswolds and the River Severn glinting in the setting sun.
