Parked on Ash Road and then took the public right of way up to the pillar, which is behind an electric fence. However, there is a gap in the electric fence where there is just string, which you can crawl under. 3 of 15 on my 15 trig Nantwich/Whitchurch day

Nice views to the SW. Parked up at The Old Rectory in Ightfield Village and followed a relatively unused path up to the trig. The trig is behind an electric fence but there is easy access via electric fence handles at both end of the field.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 25th May 1948 costing £5.7s.9d. Computed as secondary triangulation station SJ44/3 within the Shrewsbury block during 1948. Flush bracket S4739 was levelled for height to Class 1 precision as a tertiary bench mark in 1968. This marker was last maintained by the OS in July 1981. SITE VISIT: Approached from southwest. Parked in wide entrance at SJ585389. Followed mapped RoWs to trig. Pillar in grassy field just off path behind electric fencing but easily reached. Column in good condition. Spider contains grey plastic disc fitted by Jon Rouse, 28/07/2002. Flush bracket faces SW, compass measurement 226°. Vented through NE sight hole. Open outlook in all directions.

Plastic cap. This one made the Bagging Assistant's day and she is still laughing. Live electronic fence - grounded it. Was crawling underneath on all fours - apparently jumped in the air like a startled cat. Resulted in a weald on my back. Bagging Assistant still laughing! She says it makes up for all the bogs she's been dragged through.

very easy to access. follow the farm track and there she is. then you get up close and once the electric fence is negotiated theres just the small matter of the moocow rutted ground and squelchy moat. the view is reasonable. plug is a plastic insert.

Drove up the track and then walked to pillar via a detachable electric fence cable. The pillar is surrounded by lots of boggy/muddy ground. Although fairly dry today, this could be a real quagmire after rain.

Just off a public path [which, as has been said, isn't marked in the field - incidentally, the path going in the opposite direction to the trig comes to an abrupt end facing 7-foot high sweet-corn!!]. There is a plastic plug replacement. All sightholes closed. Concrete base exposed about 12" all-round. It's in a pasture field and this is obviously a gathering ground for the animals. Lovely W views towards Wales. Large numbers of house martins chattering overhead.

Access from lane NE up concrete drive. Trig point lies just off drive to right in open pasture field. Beware, a bit boggy around base of trig.

In a muddy field on a footpath. Very good view westward to Wrekin, Caradoc, Long Mynd, Stiperstones, Long Mountain, Pumlumon, Berwyn, Gyrn Moelfre and many more. Very good looking pasture.. this is dairy country. Intact but with a plastic insert.
