I've been close to the tower many times but today I approached from a different angle; the Primrose Hill community woodland. A gloomy day but a nice walk

Beckford's Tower is an architectural folly on Lansdown Hill to the north of Bath. The adjacent cemetery was entered directly from Lansdown Road. Standing 120 feet high it was completed in 1827 for William Beckford. He used the tower as a library and a retreat, located at the end of his pleasure gardens called Beckford's Ride which ran from his house in Lansdown Crescent up to the Tower at the top of the hill. Now the tower is home to a museum open from Easter to October. It is a grade I listed building. A Victorian cemetery with some impressive monuments, including Beckford’s tomb, now occupies that part of what was once Beckford's Ride that was closest to the tower. The edge of the cemetery has a good view to the southeast over the city and on to numerous misty hills and ridges beyond. There is a cut bench mark on the formal entrance to the cemetery.
