Various dates given for construction, most sites plump for 1821-4. Built on common ground - later subsumed into the Derry Ormond estate - to provide employment for the unemployed. Builder was local man David J Morgan, designer Charles James of Llanddewi Brefi, for the owner John Jones. Tower is based on an upturned cannon, looks unsafe but owner tells me there is no falling masonery and allowed me access - but not up the spiral staircase, which is extant. Entrance is bricked up, but a hole has been made that would allow access. Looking inside there is a lot of debris at the base but staircase looks viable - for those with a good head for heights!

SN55 INT001 Tower. Top looks damaged to me. Built in c.1837. Designed by C R Cockerell as a folly for the owner of Derry Ormond House (now destroyed). It is Grade II listed.
