We followed the rocky path from the car park and were captivated by the stunning views across to Loch Lomond and the mountains beyond. Sadly after visiting the trig, things took a turn for the worse along the higher boggy path, when the hubby slipped on mud and fell, resulting in his ankle being fractured in three places. No more trigging for us for a while.

Bittersweet memories...

Log #290. muddy walk up from the public car park to the east, over the top of Auchineden Hill to log the trigs, then an hour or so exploring the Whangie. Pillar is slightly damaged, with fairly substantial crack at FB height and the cap missing. Even on a fairly dreich day, good views to Campsies and Loch Lomond. Whangie was great, very interesting although disappointingly there was some graffiti on the rock face. [ExP-214/MiP-19/Rev-2/BM-16/IS-30/Other-9]

A lovely walk up to the trig from the car park. Very boggy in places but doesn't bother me. A wee bit of mist in distance so no great views of loch lomond or the Ben. I then went down to the wangie for the geocache at a spot I used to rock climb. I've some great memories of this hill.

Visited to record FB number. The pillar was completed 14th February 1946 costing 14.4s.2d. In 1952 this marker was computed for triangulation as secondary station NS29/34 in the Greenock block. Flush bracket S3638 was levelled for height also in 1952. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in July 1982. I have a theory! Although S3638 is now listed as part of Block NS29, I have reason to believe that this Secondary station pillar was originally built and observed with the trigs in Block NS77 (Glasgow) in 1947. In 1952, it would have been observed again, but this time with neighbouring the trigs in block NS29 (Greenock) built in 1949.
