The site of the trig is now occupied by the Julian Court block of flats in the suburb of Sneyd Park in the north west of Bristol. Julian Road was reached from Ladies Mile by crossing the open grass land of Durdham Down. From this stretch of The Downs you can see Leigh Woods on the other side of the Avon Gorge to the south west. Many fine Victorian and Edwardian villas line the edge of the Downs. The Congregational Christ Church was built in 1877 and apparently had a substantial but thin tower and spire.
