Counted 6 towers up here. The Fire Tower made of steel smallest of them all and no comms dishes, just one aerial pointing east. It is tucked away in the trees so not so easy to find which is funny considering it's size.

Wasn't sure this still stood as there are several comms towers that dwarf this one in the immediate locale, but eventually GPS took me to it - it's the only one without a microwave dish on it.

Passed by this as part of a geocaching walk - they kind of suddenly pop up on you when approaching from the south which was a bit of a surprise given their size!!

Think this is the one!

Drove most of the way from the north along forest track, just off the A4136 near Plump Hill. Counted 4 towers, the Fire Tower being the most southerly & by the look of it easily the oldest. Unlike the others it is possible to gain access to it. I always like to admire the view to Gloucester & the Severn from the Plump, though very cloudy today.

A fire tower is situated on a wooded hill within the Edgehills Plantation in the Forest of Dean to the north of Cinderford. It was cancelled in 1955 when the lightening conductor of a nearby wireless mast was computed as a replacement. The tower was reached by means of forestry paths and tracks from Collafield to the south; passing a GCHQ radome on a tall lattice tower. The fire tower has a couple of small aerials attached to it and it is obscured by the surrounding tall trees. It would be pretty rubbish as a remotely observed station as the nearby trees largely mask it from view.
