OS computed this trig in 1961, presumably when the original octagonal 1904 light was present. The current light is a more modern 'flat pack'. http://www.lighthousedigest.com/Digest/database/uniquelighthouse.cfm?value=7336

Took a close look before return ferry. Easy access along coast from near ferry terminal. No trace of older structure, so Destroyed it is.

Another 1990s/2000s box-shaped replacement 'lighthouse'. Picture of original octagonal lighthouse (built 1904) available at http://shetlopedia.com/Symbister_Ness_Lighthouse . I viewed the replacement from the ferry leaving Whalsay, the views of Bressay and Noss behind it as we came out of Symbister Harbour making up for the fact it's not the original! Also viewed 22/9/12 from Lunning Head (TP4586) and Laxowater (TP4376).
