During a short break in West Yorkshire I managed to combine my interests in railways and trig pillars. After visiting the Shipley Glen tramway I walked through Saltaire and on up Baildon Hill to find this splendid classic moorland pillar sitting in its own little pond. A trio of horse riding ladies kindly posed for me by the pilar.

The metal seat which was there two months ago has been removed: seems it didn't have council planning permission. (Note added 15/11/2022: In view of the observation made on the 12th Nov., maybe it had been removed to somewhere for Armistice Day?).

(2328) Bingley Road for parking. A steady 10 minute walk from there to the pillar. Plenty of folks out today, and luckily I had just missed the runners. Pillar in overall good condition, though the base is exposed and the centre cap is missing and has been filled in. A couple of benches and a topograph stand nearby. Good views abound. Pillar history: Built on the 11th of June 1937, at a cost of £6 3s 4d. Last maintained by the OS in May of 1986.

First one of the day, nice easy walk from the car park. Busy with/dog walkers and hikers wonderful views 36 degrees. clear skies trig is in good order with some worn away areas at the base with concrete exposed.

The fell calendar is back to normal and the FRA 50@50 resumed a year later (like the Olympics). A short sharp out and back to the trig from Eldwick, which was hosting its gala day. The first fete/gala/sheep dog trials in 2 years. I adore these country shows with rose queens, terrier racing, tug of war, donkey rides and good old fashioned games. Elvis made a guest appearance and did "a turn". I gift this pillar to old fashioned traditions.

Parked up in a layby on Bingley Road, and took one of half a dozen tracks across the moor and up the hill. Great views from this spot, and it is evidently a local honeypot - mountain bikers, dog walkers (leaving lots of unwelcome spoil), families and runners. Pillar foundations partially exposed by erosion, it sits proud of the surrounding ground by a few inches. Back to the car the same way and on to Baildon Common.

9 mile circular on Ilkley Moor taking in Overgate Croft Farm and Rombalds Moor trigs, then drove onto Baildon Moor, bagged Baildon Common trig and walked up to Baildon Hill trig, then drove round to and bagged The Chevin non-existent trig. Clear sunny and frosty, bigger Dales mountains in cloud. Nice burnt out car just below the trig.

Took the train to Shipley then a fantastic circular walk via Baildon first. Headed up the track by the golf course to the summit. A great choice for a birthday trig, lovely 360 degree views, Ilkley Moor, Keighley, Bradford, Leeds, Billing Hill. The Aire valley looks quite wooded from up here. Pillar in good condition, for this is a popular place. Lots of flies today for some reason. Headed down past the static caravan park and a nice walk down Shipley Glen past the tramway, Salts Mill and back down the canal. Great weather too.

Done Salts Mill and the park loads of times, at last go up to the hill. One of the most beautiful hill spaces I've done in the area - more like South Wales with the contrast of city and long lumbering moorland lines. Bag of sweets at Shipley Glen tramway on the way back - perfect!

Totally forgot to log this pillar, visited whilst doing some geocaching in the area. Lovely white-painted pillar on moorland in a slight depression with concrete block exposed about 12" all round. Ashphalt plug replacement. All sightholes open. Good views at the time but rain was rolling in from the south west. Nice spot!

Parked in large car park, crossed road and then due south straight up hill. A fine hazy day, lots of skylarks singing above us. Someone was standing on top of the pillar flying a power kite which our border terrier took a disliking to. Great views all around.

More precisely Baildon Moor, not Hill. A Nice walk up from Shipley, where Baildon Moor looms over head. At a modest 282m you still get a cracking view of this part of Yorkshire from the summit trig, such as- Salts Mill, Saltaire it's self, Airedale, Ilkley Moor, Otley Chevin, Leeds, Bradford, Shipley and as far as the Vale of York. Was windy as heck on top too!

Log #46. (282m). Bagged on 5 km walk from High Baildon to Shipley Glen via Baildon Common. This Trig & location superb. Fab views 360 degrees. Located Idle Hill and Cottingley Moor trigs thru binocs. Emley Moor at 164 degrees at a distance of 28 km. Good score for this one. Nice sunny winter day.

I have not come across a pillar in such pristine condition as this for many years. Clearly it must have a 'minder' who looks after it with loving care. Not only is the pillar painted in a dazzling white that positively shone in the sun but it looked also as if the flush bracket had been polished!! The view from the pillar is superb throughout a complete 360 degrees, from Ilkley Moor in the north to Ferrybridge power station in the south and from Ogden Moor in the west to the North York Moors in the east.

Nice views in all directions across the moors and to the Leeds & Bradford cityscapes. Obviously well visited with lots of routes over the moor. Came from Ilkley via the trig at Rivock and heading to Guiseley.
