Another church that I visited principally to find the associated geocache, Church Micro 5304, in this case. Another fine church, with several interesting features inside and out. Beautiful day for my visit, too. nifta [#13]

Spotted St Matthew's spire years ago when walking the Kennet & Avon Canal, and promised myself I'd return someday to visit this pleasing Victorian church. Those much maligned Victorian restorers could produce some sumptuous churches when building from scratch, and St Matthew's is one of them; loved the beautifully polished granite piers, especially the exceedingly fat one which helps to support the tower. Very enjoyable visit.

Dedicated to St Matthew, Midgham Church was built by our Victorian ancestors being completed in 1869. It's sited on a hill overlooking the Kennet valley, there's a 101m spot height marked on the OS1:25k maps close by. Disappointingly I was not able to locate the cut benchmark that the OS Benchmark database records as being on the church.

Intersected station SU77/INT010. Visiting four intersected stations on the Berkshire/Hampshire border is not quite the same way to mark the 50th anniversary as edfieldens visits to Thorny Gale and Cold Ashby!
