Smashing walk around Youlgreave whilst in the area. Beautiful Church and very old graveyard. Found the CBM on the tower, vane was in lovely condition and could be seen from some distance.

This was the start of an eight mile hike out of Youlgrave. An imposing 12th century Church with later additions that is easily spotted from the hills around Youlgrave. It retains a CBM near to the tower entrance and bears a Cockerell on the vane.

All Saints' Church, Youlgreave. Beautiful Grade I listed church, which dates back to the 12th century. It underwent a major restoration during 1869-70. All good with the tower and vane. To the right of the main door, there is a rivet benchmark. 9 of 9 today in the Derbyshire Dales in and around Ashbourne, Bakewell, and Matlock

Youlgrave or Youlgreave? Once all the 9 -5s have gone home, you can have the river and village to yourself. Once stayed at the YHA here, it used to be a co-op and my dormitory was ladies underwear. Two visited this evening are for all the volunteers out there, it was national volunteering week last week.

All Saints. Mentioned in the Doomsday Book. Previously, a Saxon church on the same site. Only the vane is declared as a trig, which make a change form the usual collection (centre, flag, bolt, pinnacle). Up the road is the small town reservoir, one of the first (1829), allowing the great unwashed a rare chance to wash

Clearly visible from the two trig pillars north and south of the village, Noton Barn and Hopping Top. I took one final photograph of it before retiring into the youth hostel for the night.
