Walked out in the dark to see the lighthouse working at close quarters.Combined with the nearby iconic Midland Hotel, Morecambe looked a nice place to visit! My wife remembered visiting a small zoo next to the lighthouse in the early 70s that had a bear housed in a tiny cage. Times have changed.

Morecambe Seaside festival meant access to the end of the pier was restricted as fireworks were being installed. The security guard made an exception and allowed us access. There is a benchmark at the base of the tower.

I've spent a lot of time on this pier(known locally as the Stone jetty) over the years from early childhood memories to messing about on here as a teenager to simply taking in the views & listening to the wading birds as a middle aged fool,i love this spot. Building which Lighthouse is attached was originally a railway station in the 1850's & jetty was used to load/unload the cargo from boats straight onto trains. Date is from my first logged photo but first visited in late 60's early 70's.

Lighthouse Viewed from the promenade with the Coniston fells as a backdrop
Lighthouse Looking back from the modern extention of the jetty.
