Parked by gate to south of road summit then followed same route as vegibagger. No problems. Lots of gorse bushes so you need to find the correct route.

from the road to the west it's much easier to approach from200metres south of the highest bit of road rather than the gate 200metres north on the bend. southerly route allows access without fence climbing right up till almost at pillar where an easy hip over by a hall in hedge gets to it. northern route requires more barbed wire fence climbing.

Parked at cottage entrance. through gate then followed field and up an over two fences to trig. Nice and easy. Pity my companion is such a drama queen when it comes to Barbed Wire Fences. The only thing that motivated her to get across the fence was me standing gloating as I had already been to the trig and back by the time she still couldn't find the non existent gate.

Parked at the entrance to Thurot Cottage, through gate, and then headed up through the field heading straight for the trig. Couldn't find any easy way to cross the two barbed wire fences other than just straight over. Which for GerryU2 was a quick task. For me it took some time and another pair of troos bites the dust. Ended up with two marks on my legs as if I'd be bitten by a vampire in my dreams it was Eric from True Blood. Just as much of an epic for me to get back over the tow fences. Lovely views and pillar in great condition.

Gosh.. easier than I thought.. drove up Mr GOML's drive to field entrance and walked thro open gate and directly up the field to the pillar.. could've actually driven right up to the pillar today! :D ..no fences, gorse or barbs!

Ballawhannel ..drivable! :-O
Easy route ..if tractors can get there...

Parked to the west on the Thurot Cottage Road, over the gate, negotiated the gorse and shrubbery. Straight walk to the top field with the final fence to climb. Lovely views and pillar in great condition.

A bit of a pig to get to. Originally the open gate at NX 43392 01389 looked promising, but once at the top of the field, I couldn't find a path through the gorse. Next attempt over the barbed wire at NX 43274 01191 proved a better route, leading to waist-high bracken which soon gave way to easy paths. A final push through some more gorse and barbed wire to get to the field with the trig.

Gorse is the predominant vegetation in the area which doesn't make for easy finding ! Perseverance pays and there are good views to the north to the Point of Ayre.

We parked just below the high point of the minor road to the East of the trig. Theres a path into the gorse etc then head for the high ground. The trigs actually in a grazing field which means tackling gorse and barbed wire. Plug with a plastic insert.
