Located behind a clump of daffs. Bolt (1”) has a cross cut, 1.25m from wall. Gate has new posts but measurements ok.

Found Dusty's block ok. Can't be anything else but. Although the OS measurement from the wall is well out - I measured at 1.25m. However the other 2 measurments, from the gateposts, are near enough spot on. 3/4" bolt with a cross incised into the head, set into a rough concrete block..

Found Dusty's stone slab with cross-head screw, 5m from N gatepost and about 1m from wall. Never seen a crosshead screw as an OS marker though and location wrong so I think that is something else. Paced out dimensions from OS sketch a few times, 4.9 and 8.8m from gateposts and 4.6m from face of wall. Agreed pretty well with GPS location. Nice soft soil, probed a foot down but no luck. No luck with Nr's Berntsen, not clear exactly where he found it. Having read dal's logs and looked at OS photo, though, I guess this must be it. Stone slab matches a few other SBs in the southwest.

OS sketch NOT matching Dusty's stone slab location!

Second time successful - although you have to look very hard to see it. Well done to Dusty for spotting it. It is not set in the normal flat concrete. I still failed to find Nr's Berntsen.

Using photo from OS site I found the large rock which Iainmac had discovered about 5 inches down. Nothing else in area so I went back to rock and cleaned surface. Low and behold there was the bolt. First visited 20th Sep 2008. Visted again in 2009 with sketch. No luck. Once more in 2010 with tape and a trowel but measurements from sketch do not seem to line up?

I think I found the same stone as iainmac. I found neither the rivet nor Nrs Berntsen. I dont believe the OS distance from the wall - it doesnt square with the photo or with the other dimensions. The area has many stones, and is well-flattened by farm vehicles.

Frustrating. I certainly didnt find anything like nr (his find looks like a berntsen). I did find a large flat surface though no sign of a rivet in it.
