This one has been on the to-do list for a very long time. As most others have done, we parked up on Ox Close Lane in the layby next to the PROW. I then nipped uphill up said muddy path in the rain, with a burned and flailed hedge to my left. The pillar is actually visible from here at this time of year. As you reach the gate at the summit, there is a gap to nip round and into the field, and then it is a short way along the scrubby field edge to avoid trampling the infant crop. At the large gap in the hedgerow, I nipped through as the pillar is just inside the trees ahead, to the south side of the hedgeline, just behind an old rusty gate. It is in poor condition, having been uprooted and dumped, with a big chunk missing from the top and an exposed spider. It is very easy to find and reach and is only a brief trespass - I was off the PROW no more than a couple of minutes, and you are not visible from the farm or cottage whilst visiting. You are aware of the proximity to the buildings, however, as others have noted. Perhaps it feels differently with the summer vegetation, but I can understand why some feel asking for permission is preferable here. I retraced my steps back to the car.

Parked on the verge by the Bridleway and walked up the slope by the field. Nice views of the Hambleton Hills and the White Horse on the way up. Nipped around the gate and followed the hedge boundary along to the gar. Couldn't find the pillar initially but eventually came across it next to the old metal gate beyond the gap. The field had a few metal detector enthusiasts dotted around, had a chat with a couple of them, the best item they had uncovered from the field was a Saxon coin.

(2673) Parked at the farm and then took the RoW up to the gate - no need to climb over, enough of a gap to walk around it - and into the adjacent field and followed the boundary of that for the pillar. Moved some while ago, but not too far from its original location it would seem. Glad it survives. Damage to the top is immediately evident, spider now partially exposed, with cracks running around and down from that. Definitely could do with some TLC this one. Still retains its original centre cap - with deep indented lettering. Incidentally, it would seem that this is my second 'Barf Hill' pillar. My first was TP1028 near Beverley in 2018. Pillar history: Built on the 5th of March 1954, at a cost of £15 17s 6d. Last maintained by the OS in May of 1975.

marked as Eldmire Hill on OS map. Owing to proximity, went to farm to ask permission to visit. Accompanied along track behind buildings by owner and her dog to show me where it was (not really necessary as readily in view and no problem with vegetation). Told it had been moved some years earlier to enable new gateway to be installed.

Pillar trunk damaged possibly by farm machinery of hedge cutting gear. Spider retains original OS centre cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces south, ~175°. Vented through north facing sight hole. Open outlook spans 90° from east to south, remainder blocked by surrounding foliage.

Parked in the farm yard at Eldmire Cottage with the intention of asking for permission to deviate from the footpath. No one arround so did it anyway. Pillar is steadily disappearing into the undergrowth but still reachable if you do not mind the odd scratch. Nast crack in the top of the pillar but does not appear to be deteriorating too much. Pillar is more likely to be on land owned by Eldmire Hill as it is almost within touching distance of that farm.
