Parked near the cowshed at the end of the road then an easy walk up to the Vanessa pillar on Barr Mor, good condition but centre OS cap missing and plugged with bitumen. Fantastic viewpoint on a superb spring day

I cycled to this one first from the ferry, following the track up from the farm past the small lochan, past some old ruin houses and onto the hillside. Cows in the fields here.

Fell off a wall after this one and had to cut planned walk short. Spent rest of the day in the cafe at the heritage centre.

tried to stick to the coast as much as possible but ended up using the road for a good distance from the other pillar, nice walk all the same.

Log #298. Dumped the car in a grassy area by the road at NM822400 and more-or-less followed Graeme, Aileen, and Charles' route. Took the right of the two gates at NM823397 and followed the sheep tracks, aiming for the huge stone wall at NM818392. Easy from there, Vanessa pillar is on a small mound of limestone, offering stunning 360-degree views. Highly recommended. Retraced steps back to the car, with a slight detour to the north to catch a glimpse of Achadun Castle and Bernera island. Made it back to the ferry in tons of time, although could easily have spent much longer exploring this fantastic wee island. [ExP-219/MiP-22/Rev-2/BM-16/IS-30/Other-9]

HISTORY: Pillar completed 22nd June 1959 costing £34.4s.11d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NM52/23 within the Mull block during 1960. Levelled for height also in 1950. Last maintained by the OS in May 1981. SITE VISIT: Approached from northeast. Parked on mainland in roadend public car park at NM902453. Ferry across to jetty at northern tip of Island of Lismore. Up via Creag Sgeanach (Fennaerochan). Returned to public road at Clachan via Bachuil, staying on B8045 until junction at NM838408, then right onto unclassified road until NM822399. Farm track to south reaches high point after 200m, then SW up shoulder of hill to summit. The island of Lismore has a trig pillar at each end. These were the targets for today, both trigs now duly bagged. 230 photos taken. Also, joining us today was Charles Everett from York who is well known in hill bagging circles throughout the UK. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre plugged with tar. Flush bracket faces southeast, ~143°. Vented through three sight holes, NE still plugged. Full 360° panoramic view. Descended SE to public road taking B8045 all the way back to the NE ferry terminal.

Dry, bright and calm conditions for this day's walk. Out and back to Rubha Fiart from the Achnacroish ferry. Pretty sure I saw a pair of golden eagles circling above the patch of woodland to the northeast. Final trig pillar of a four week Scottish island jaunt. Pleasant times :).

vgc, asphalt plug. Cylindrical pillar. Wind and rain for the whole of my Lismore visit. From SE, keep R of trees initially for easy descent. Then boggy valley bottom and ascent thru pasture - limestone as with Fennaerochan. There's a FB on rock outcrop at SW end of island but couldnt be bothered in those conditions and not really time before the return ferry. Just me and a smallish cattle truck - its a tiny ferry. Rough crossing with spray splashing over the car!
