WAB activation. I asked at the farm for access / parking and it was OK. He told me a standard notice about cattle but there was only sheep in the field so there was no problem.

Parked on the road to the south of the pillar. Climbed over a gate into the field to the south of the trig field. Accessed the trig field via an open gate at the south east corner of the field. The pillar can be found next to a mast in the south west corner of the field. Spectacular views.

Parked at the bottom of the field below the wood. Squeezed through a gap between the wall and wooden fence. The barbed wire is a bit slack so could just push it down and climb over it. Up the grass field o the field gate at the wood, there is a style at the top of the wood.

Looked at going up through the woods but wife didn't fancy the barbed wire so went further along the road to the farm access road. Parked up by the road sign and walked up to the farm. Asked for permission and got lucky as the cattle had just been moved out of the field. Farmer was not keen to grant access at times when the cattle are in the trig field. Followed the track up to the masts and the pillar. Great views all around on the way up but the woods spoil the vista from the pillar itself.

Followed the field boundary up from the SW and through the wood with the mast as a guide. Gates and stiles in convenient places. Enjoyed the surprise view to the east as the last few feet are gained.

Cut mark on gatepost spotted on entering the field. Then up to wall where there is a handy couple of protruding stones which act as a stile to aid progress over wall to bag trig & Tump summit.

Walked up through sheep field from gateway with benchmarked gatepost (NY46804685) to gate at NW corner of field. Over gate into wood, following ruined drystone wall to metal stile for access to field with mast and pillar. Tracks around pillar cut by JCB accessing forestry - see photo

Parked a little south-westerly of the trig, climbed over a barbed-wire-topped gateway which led into a beautifully green field with an easy uplifting climb to enter another field containing sheep and cows. Pillar fine; asphalt top with one s/h open. We then drove to Langholm in the hope of climbing Monument Hill, but the heavens opened as we arrived, so another time for that one.

Parked at entrance to woods W of pillar. Ignored the dummy webcam and dire warnings of trespassers being reported to the police etc. and followed decent tracks (former mountain bike routes?) all the way to the pillar. Fine location and view.

Parked at Barrock End farm and asked for permission - readily given by owner's father. Short walk up access path for the comms mast. Pillar sits outwith the compound and has an exceptioanally smooth screed finish. Top cap missing, asphalt plug; RHS sight hole open. Extensive views N & E.
