The parish church of St James, Whitehaven. A Georgian church constructed 1752-3 that is reputed to have the finest Georgian interior in the country. We were invited in by the churchwarden who just happened to be leaving as we arrived - a very pleasant lady who gave us a potted history of Whitehaven's industrial past and of the church. Have to admit it does have a stunning interior. There is a cut benchmark and bolt to the right of the main entrance. Fine views across the harbour.
