Checklist: Trowel, for digging; Walking Pole, for prodding; Gardening Gloves, for tugging away matted vegetation, Kitchen Roll, for wiping clean bolt or rivet head. No Surface Block is beyond us now! As ever with blocks the satisfaction comes not from reaching the location but unearthing the thing, particularly when it’s become well buried. I left it exposed, but good luck digging it out again if a couple of years have gone by since this visit. Prior to researching OS Blocks I almost parked on top of this one 12 months ago on the way to and from a circuit of Byers Pike - Knardale Forest OS Pillars without knowing of its existence. I'm much better researched and equipped these days!

Uncovered and now it's a YSM and I was passing by meant I had to pop up the road for it. Handy parking right next to it as well.

Easy finding using OS measurement from corner of the wall. Small bolt, <1" dia, in concrete block under couple of inches of soil and turf on rough verge. Cleaned it up and left it exposed.

Exposed so no problem finding it now the grass is dying back.

Had been dug out and was only covered in dead grass. If its covered up use the obvious rounded stone in the wall as a marker - its about 3 feet away from the wall. Pleasant enough location. As jimmys picture shows this one can get completely buried in thick grass later in the year!
