Had a dig into a couple of depressions to west of small cairn. The tumulus is made up of gravel, rocks and soil so did not make for easy work. Quite a few people around several of whom I happened to know. This one is probably still there - just needs a more concerted effort on a “quieter” day.

Walked up to bag Great Mell Fell, couldn't see any signs on top, Did a 9 mile circular on Souther Fell, Bannerdale Crags and Bowscale Fell (another block) earlier that day. Afterwards drove round to Little Mell Fell, bagged that and then onto Gowbarrow Fell.

Climbed to bag as a Wainwright on way home from Blencathra as we still had some energy left. Parked to SSE side and walked up lane into NT land. Unfortunately took the first gate on the right up in to the woods, found no path to the summit, so spent most of the ascent struggling through 5ft high bracken. Discovered when we descended that the path joins the lane further along. No energy left by the time we reached the summit. Had a brief poke around with screwdriver, and checked under the small summit cairn, but no block found. Location will be hard as the summit is a stoney tumulus. Good views up to the fells around Keswick.

Buried block, should be approx 3m NE of summit cairn. Very windy afternoon: I spent a few minutes prodding and there may be something in one of the depressions near the cairn but I had limited time so didn't try digging. Nice hill, good path from SE, boggy at top.
