It's the second time in 6 years I've visited this to bag the bolt, the first being in 2018. And once again, it was closed. Not to be outdone, I popped the drone up and snapped a photo. Job done.

Luckier than Jon on a grey & damp afternoon.

Despite signage indicating the tower was open to the public, it was firmly shut and locked. Marked 'good' for the Centre, but disappointed at not getting to view the Bolt.

Visited both Battery & Martello Tower and given a wonderfully informed and amusing tour by Glen, the guide. Took about an hour. Glen was an enthusiastic and very knowledgeable character, and he even knew the answer to my quiz question when I asked him whether he knew what the purpose of the bolt was under the gun carriage. Would have loved to have met 99 year-old local legend John Coade MBE who lives in the Battery but only sign of him today was his pair of longjohns hanging on the washing line. Yes, it was that sort of visit!

20mm bolt in middle of roof under gun carriage. Historic Scotland, open 9.30 - 5.30 (Apr-Sept I think the sign said). Closed at time of visit but not locked :-)
