Metal rod in concrete block buried 45cm down in stubble/grass field, location more or less as per OS sketch, we measured it as 19.75m SE from face of wall to NW, 10.25m NE from blaze (cut arrow, no datum mark) in face of wall to SW. Nice soft soil, easy digging. Block had 2 lengths of angle iron on top, which we replaced, and then reburied, and replaced the turf.

Parked in field to SSE. Good OS sketch although awkward making the measurements due to gorse and brambleon the hedge banks. However, we determine a reasonably precise point at which to dig, definitely enabled by finding the 'blaze' (as referred to in the sketch) on a wall behind gorse [the blaze turned out to be a cut arrow]. Having dug down 450mm the edge of the upper surface of the block was detected and one side of our hole was then undercut with 2 lengths of angle-iron removed and most of the block and a rod marker point revealed. All infilled after photographing and turf replaced.
