Viewed from Ramsbottom station whilst waiting for a very late running train on the East Lancashire Railway. The flagpole could just be made out but no flag was flying.

Spotted and photographed from the Bull Hill trig pillar. Flagstaff clearly visible at 2.6km (with binos or camera zoom). The monument is a Grade II listed structure, 1851-2, erected in tribute to Sir Robert Peel in effecting repeal of Corn Laws. Manchester's northern suburban sprawl of Ramsbottom in background.

From Crowthorn after visiting Scholes Height and Bull Hill. Tower open, excellent views from its top.

Tower open today (admission £2). Wide steps well lit; makes a change. From the top there are extensive views beyond Manchester to the south; Darwen Tower NW. Blackpool Tower visible according to the topograph but couldn't see it. Union Jack flying. Hadn't anticipated that the tower would be open so didn't have the coords of the rivet relative to the flagstaff (subsequently checked OSGB36; the rivet should be 1.3m S of the flagstaff). Found a rivet at centre of the NW parapet which looked hopeful but then another on the SE ppt and two more on the SW ppt. So these may have been witness marks implying that the rivet was on the (resurfaced) floor. Didn't see it but maybe its still there.

Visited with my Mum and children. We enjoyed a climb to the top of the tower for the views, before heading across the hill to a Geocaching event.
